Bio:
Celtic
Crossroads Alpacas, Icelandic & Finnsheep originated from
a dream I had as an 8-year old, who loved fiber arts and animals
so much she believed that she would enjoy living the life of a
shepherdess, instructor, and artist. In April 2003, my dream came
true, and I’ve been living my dream. We named the farm Celtic
Crossroads because we’re 200% Celtic between us. At this
moment, I have four alpacas, twelve sheep, numerous Americana
chickens (a type of Aracauna chicken), four guineas, Norphan the
barn cat, and Bud, my dwarf Great Pyrenees, who watches out for
them all.
My
husband, Lance, is the Co-owner of Zydax, LLC, which manufactures
road sensors (http://www.zydax.com), but you’ll also see
him helping me unload and load my items at the Market as well
as helping me with things at the farm.
I
started selling my products at the Walla Walla Farmers’
Market starting in 2004. I sell both raw wool raw and scoured
(scoured means washed in Spinning-ese) fleeces, carded batts,
and handspun yarn for those who love to spin, felt, or hand knit
or crochet, as well as alpaca fiber, batts, and yarn. There’s
a large variety of natural colors in shades of whites, blacks,
grays, browns, moorit, and more. I sell custom-dyed yarn by request.
I have fibers too short to spin which you can use in papermaking
and other crafts. I also sell handcrafted toys, accessories such
as scarves, hats, purses, wristlets, mittens, shawls, ponchos,
etc. I also make baby clothing, toys, & blankets; and home
décor items. I also raise Americana chickens (aka the Easter
Egg chickens) with their multi-colored eggs. I blow out the shells
and dry them. They come in natural shades of blue, brown, pink,
green, and ivory for egg art, dioramas, and eggshell mosaics for
those who do not like to dye their eggshells or want them naturally
colored.
I
have sheep and lambs for spinners’ flocks, free-range eggs
(available in mid-spring through mid-autumn), apricots, peaches,
and cherries in the spring when ripe at Celtic Crossroads if you’d
like to stop by…just call first. We also do tours for families,
pre-schools, elementary schools, day cares, and home schoolchildren
(parents must accompany children) for those interested in Icelandic,
Finn sheep, or alpacas. Stop by in the May and June to see the
lambs. We have a children’s story time on Sundays at 1:00
PM for the children and their parents by appointment. I also teach
classes for those who want to learn to knit, crochet, frame knit,
dye, felt/full, or spin for children, teens, and adults. Prices
vary and there is always a discount for those who sign up with
a friend.
I
sell at the Walla Walla Farmers’ Market, the Walla Walla
Gift Shop at the Airport, and from my home (call first). I also
teach children’s knitting; beginning and intermediate spinning
at Knitochet in Walla Walla, and in my home (please call first).
I always have plenty of coffee and tea for visitors (and juices
or water for the kids)! I’d love to see you or call me if
you’d like more information.
